Covid-19 test for koreans

What is it?

COVID-19 Test for Koreans is a research project targeting Korean Americans or Koreans living in Northern California through Korean Schools. Its goals are to increase the uptake of COVID-19 testing among Korean Americans and to understand the barriers and facilitators of COVID-19 testing.

who can participate?

  • A Korean or Korean American
  • An adult (18 years old or older)
  • Able to read and speak in English or Korean
  • Resides in Northern California
  • Has access to a phone to receive a call


why is this study being done?

The purpose of the study is to test if a community-based intervention delivered by Korean school teachers will help increase the uptake of COVID-19 testing in Korean Americans. We also want to understand barriers to and facilitators of COVID-19 testing.


How will this study be done?


  • For this project, there will be about 12 Korean Schools participating with a total of 300 Korean American adults recruited through these schools.
  • All participants will receive two COVID-19 at-home antigen test kits and the instruction to use them - a written and a short video guide.
  • Depending on the group assignment of schools where they are recruited from, some participants will be invited to two educational small group sessions led by a trained Korean School teacher or lay health educator.
  • All activities will be completed online or by phone.
  • Participants will also be asked to fill out three surveys over the course of 8 weeks.
  • Participants will receive gift cards of up to $70 for completing all the surveys.

This study is part of the RADx-UP program funded by the National Institutes of Health. RADx-UP stands for Rapid Acceleration in Diagnostics (in) Underserved Populations. The RADx-UP in a national health research program to learn more about COVID-19 disease.
