JiWon Choi, PhD, RN

Principal Investigator

Dr. JiWon Choi is a nursing researcher and Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Choi’s research focuses on reducing health disparities by promoting physical activity in vulnerable populations including Asian American family caregivers of persons living with dementia, Korean immigrant women at risk for metabolic syndrome, women with young children, and overweight/obese pregnant women. In the COVID-19 Test for Koreans Project, Dr. Choi will test if Korean schools can be a platform to reach a hard-to-reach minority population (i.e., Korean Americans) and deliver a community-based intervention to promote the uptake of COVID-19 testing among Korean Americans.

Janice Tsoh, PhD

Co-Investigator

Janice Tsoh, PhD is a clinical psychologist and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. She is a co-director of the Asian American Research Center on Health (AsianARCH.org). Dr. Tsoh's current research, being funded by the California Tobacco-Related Research Program and the National Institutes of Health, focuses on tobacco cessation treatment in vulnerable populations including Asian American immigrants and cancer patients. Dr. Tsoh is a Principal Investigator of the Healthy Family Project, a community-based health promotion project that has provided lifestyle educational interventions to more than 1200 individuals and families in Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese languages since 2012. Leveraging community engagement and rigorous methods, Dr. Tsoh's research aims to promote health equity by developing accessible intervention resources that can empower individuals and families to make informed health decisions and to take an active role in staying healthy.

Susan Stewart, PhD

Co-Investigator

Susan Stewart is a professor of biostatistics at UC Davis with more than 25 years of experience in health-related behavioral research. She has been responsible for the statistical aspects of health promotion studies on a variety of topics, including genetic counseling, cancer prevention and screening, tobacco and drug use, and quality of life. She is particularly interested in issues pertaining to the measurement of health behavior, risk factors, and outcomes in diverse populations.

Hanna Yoon

Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator

Hanna Yoon is a recent college graduate from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Hanna has previously supported the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit UC Davis Medical Center as an intern and continues to work in the healthcare field as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant at Davis Community Clinic. Her main interests lie in accessible healthcare and health-related adversities and risks for overseen groups within ethnic communities, such as Asian-American immigrants or Latin-Americans with disabilities.

Shine Lee

Research Volunteer

Shine Lee is a 3rd year undergraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley intending to major in Cognitive Science and minor in Nutritional Science. His main interests include understanding pathologies and treatments for neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic disorders, and he is passionate about working directly with Korean-American and Asian-American communities.

Sooyeon Picht

Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator

Sooyeon Picht is an Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator who graduated from Sogang University in Seoul, Korea with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree. She earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Chico and a Master of Business Administration degree from San Jose State University. She has worked for a variety of high tech companies as an engineer, consultant and strategy manager. Her interests include technological solutions and digital communities in support of aging populations.

Eunjin Park

Research Volunteer

Eunjin Park is a senior undergraduate student at the San Diego State University seeking to major in Applied Mathematics based on Computational Statistics. She utilizes a strong analytical mindset and a keen ability to problem-solve to consistently transform raw data into meaningful technical solutions that improve processes. Her main interests include researching technologies for diagnosis and prevention of diseases and personalized treatment by comprehensively analyzing big data such as various types of hospital medical records, health records, genomic data, and personal daily life data.
